Sea Change Prep Swim Program - Beginners Welcome!

Sea Change’s mission is to transform students so each student can achieve their maximum potential. We believe physical fitness is an important dimension in and of itself, but also an inspiring fitness program serves our overall mission. It teaches each student, as well as their parents, that the student is capable of much more than they think or can even imagine.

The cornerstone of the fitness program is the ocean swimming program. The program is specially designed for any swimmer (even those who have never before been in the water). Highly experienced open ocean swim coaches/teachers use one on one instruction and proven, extremely safe ocean swimming training techniques to carefully guide each student to their personal potential (whatever that may be). Sea Change routinely takes students with no prior experience in ocean swimming and teaches each student to safely swim. We find that even small steps forward–like swimming even a short distance in the ocean–create an immediate sense of accomplishment, particularly in students with little or no prior ocean experience. With such successes, the student learns to overcome challenges, not just in the water, but in life.

In this way, Sea Change uses swimming to provide a unique and life changing experience, which empowers each student, grows their self-esteem and impact all aspects of their lives. Moreover, the exposure to nature on a regular basis restores each student’s ability to connect with the world at large as well as refine their focus in an environment that encourages excellence and the pursuit of lofty goals. In our experience, incredible advances in physical capability, body image and self-esteem often occur in less than six months.

The program also creates health conscious fitness routines and skillful habits for life which replace the instant gratification of electronics and social media saturation and other unhealthy habits encouraged by negative peer pressure.

For some, it has the potential for even more. While ocean swimming three times a week is tremendous for every student and has all the above benefits, those students who so desire can achievesome the dramatic accomplishments shown below. Not many people applying to college today can claim they accomplished one world-class open ocean swim event per year, such as Alcatraz (solo) or relay swims of the English Channel, Catalina Channel or some other exotic adventure. Sea Change provides the opportunity for every child to achieve such dramatic successes if they so choose.

San Diego County Board of Supervisors, proclaimed August 4th, 2015 Zombie Patrol Day for English Channel relay swim.
